“Did all your brother and sisters attend the school, too? Was the teacher nice to you?” Pocahontas learned not in the traditional way of being taught in a schoolhouse, but John was and is her teacher in every way. Her knowledge of the English and the land unknown to her came from him. “What do you typically learn each day?”
“Aiden attended as well, and Mary a little…but Becca soon refused,” Anna said ruefully. She shrugged. ”The teachers were all right. We learned history of England, and reading and writing, and poetry and literature and a little bit of math and science.”
“Oh I hope I’ll be helping you at school when I become your mother in my time—though I think you’ll learn from me more when you are wandering in the forest,” she whispers, “at least I hope.”
